Oh, acne.

The skin’s favorite “wake-up-call” to remind us that something is off-balance. Acne can be tricky to tackle, as there are a variety of factors from stress, environment, hormones, food, and improper skincare use that may trigger a sudden flare-up or purge.

Throughout the years, a variety of ancient Earth-Clay’s have taken the world of skincare by storm. However, it’s important to note that not all clays behave the same when it comes to treating specific skin concerns. b.glen uses Montmorillonite Clay in both our Clay Wash and Clay Lotion, to help soothe and heal acne-prone skin.

Let’s Get Clear: What is Montmorillonite Clay?

Montmorillonite is an ultra-soft mineral-based clay that typically forms in microscopic crystals. With French origins, Montmorillonite is a 2:1 clay, meaning that it has 2 tetrahedral sheets binding to 1 octahedral sheet. It is also found in the same family as a more widely-known earth-clay, Bentonite.

Fun Fact: Montmorillonite Clays are oftentimes used medicinally, as they hold a negative charge, and easily bind to toxins in the body. Some practitioners will suggest the use of Montmorillonite Clay in detoxification regimens to rid the body of heavy metals and toxic waste. Do not attempt detoxification without consultation and approval from a medical professional.

Benefits of Montmorillonite Clay for Acne-Prone Skin.

Though the greyish-green hue of Montmorillonite may not be fun and glamorous, this gentle clay holds mighty power for blemish-prone skin. When applied, this highly-absorbent clay pulls dirt, pore-clogging sebum, environmental toxins and excess oils out of the skin; visibly reducing inflammation without excessively drying or irritating sensitive skin.

Just as the negative charge binds to and removes toxins in the body, it performs just the same topically, for your skin! Simultaneously, Montmorillonite softens and hydrates the skin, making it the ideal component of one’s acne fighting skincare routine. While many acne cleansers focus on using a variety of strong ingredients, or foaming agents that may potentially strip the skin of vital moisture, or cause irritation to sensitive skin, Clay Wash and Clay Lotion work to detoxify and balance — with zero foaming agents or over-stimulating chemicals.

b.glen Balancing Bonus Benefits (Go ‘Head & Say It 3x Fast)

While we 🖤 Montmorillonite as a clear-skin superstar in our product lineup, we believe a proprietary blend of ingredients means we work better when we work together.

b.glen Clay Wash also contains botanical Chamomile Extract to soothe redness and calm painful, adult and adolescent acne, with plant-derived Squalane to protect and strengthen the skin barrier from the potential harm of external damage.

b.glen Clay Lotion is a multi-benefit toning lotion, ideal for use immediately following Clay Wash. Dipotassium Glycyrrhizinate soothes inflammation, while preventing excessive dryness. Scutellaria Baicalensis (a.k.a. Chinese Skullcap), contains antibacterial properties, and antioxidant compounds that are essential to balance and restore healthy, clear skin.

As Seen on T.V!

“This is going to help you get that deep cleanse, while still caring for your moisture barrier”, raves Liz Kennedy, Beauty Expert and guest on NBC Los Angeles: California Live!

Liz Kennedy’s Fall/Winter Skincare Favorites Features b.glen Clay Wash.

Clay Wash made its mark in Kennedy’s Fall/Winter skincare favorites as “the perfect cleanser for anyone with sensitive or acne prone skin.”

“I love it, and I know you at home will, too!”

Here’s the truth:

If you’re someone who struggles with acne, you’ve likely tried every face wash, cream and serum under the sun. The unfortunate truth is most products formulated for acne contain harsh chemicals you can’t even pronounce, which will irritate already sensitive skin further.

These same facial cleansers make you feel like your skin is receiving a deep-clean, with foam and bubbles galore. Foaming cleansers inevitably disrupt the PH of the skin, stripping it of the moisture that it does need to fight bacteria that causes acne in the first place.

Try this instead:

1. Remove all traces of makeup with the Double-Cleanse method. Use b.glen QuSome NanoOff Cleansing, for the deepest-clean skin can feel.

2. Emulsify b.glen Clay Wash with lukewarm water, moving in circular motions across the face and neck for 60 seconds.

3. If you have active acne, moisturizers with a gel-textured hydrator is your skin’s best bet. QuSome Moisture Gel Cream contains Hydrolyzed Collagen and Hyaluronic Acid that nourish and repair without an oily or sticky residue.
